julia nobis in calvin klein is everything i want to be
Monday night was the Council of Fashion Designers of America Awards and it took place in North America's fashion capitol: New York City. For short, its known as the CFDA Awards. Think of the CFDA Awards as the MET gala's cooler, younger sister who lives in Brooklyn and has kombucha daily for breakfast.
Everyone looked cool. But not everyone looked as cool as Julia Nobis.
Do you know Julia Nobis like I know Julia Nobis? To start, she's an Australian model who never wanted a career in modelling. Her pedigree is exquisite. She has opened for Proenza Schouler, Dries Van Noten and Alexander McQueen. Her campaigns include Celine, Saint Laurent and Louis Vuitton. On top of that, she was concurrently studying for her bachelors in Science and Applied Science from RMIT in Australia and plans on becoming a doctor. Okay, great.
She's basically the female equivalent of Pietro Boselli. That guy with chiseled abs and explosive biceps who is completing his PhD in engineering.
As a normal person with a very high interest in fashion who was swiping through photo after photo of the blue carpet, I noticed Julia Nobis looking rather coy. Like a wallflower at a party who is afraid to talk to people about politics or the wonders of Nutella. But unlike the wallflower, her coyness demure is actually a sign of confidence like Hilary Clinton in a power suit.
Nobis is donning a complete look from Calvin Klein's fw17 collection, designed by Raf Simons, who won both womenswear and menswear designer of the year. Nobis pulls off American sportswear quite effortlessly. The rich colours compliment her vampire-like pale skin. And that hair. Look at that unequivocally messy hair. I don't have any hair, but what is your secret?? Is it rice water? Sleeping for 10 hours and not combing it? Did you not shower for 7 days?
Julia Nobis is that uncontrived cool girl that no one knows. Underrated, yes. And that is okay.
